Ravinia and Kohl Children's Museum Collaborate on Music Exhibit

The Glenview museum will add a new note to its repertoir of musical education with the help of Highland Park's Ravinia Festival.

Ravinia Festival, Highland Park's summer music festival, announced today that it will sponsor an interactive music-making exhibit at Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago in Glenview. "Kohls has all the curatorial resources to teach kids as young as 5, we offer the musical expertise," said Ravinia Festival President and CEO Welz Kauffman. "Now that we're here it feels like a natural thing." The hands-on “Music Makers” exhibit is one of 17 permanent vignettes for children ages birth to eight, aligned with the Illinois State Learning Standards, at the Museum. Last Chance: Sonic Sensation Closes Sunday

Our last chance feature lets you know about upcoming deadlines you won't want to miss. This week: learn all about hearing and sound at Kohl Children's Museum.

If you haven’t checked out Kohl Children Museum’s temporary exhibit Sonic Sensation, you’ll want to visit this weekend before it moves out. The highly interactive exhibit teaches kids of all ages about hearing and sound. You and your kids can add noises to video to create a soundtrack, play music by moving your body, try to find hidden noise makers by listening and even test your hearing. You might even learn something yourself from the visualizations of how the ear works and the effects of frequency and amplitude. This is also the last weekend to check out the adorable hatchlings at the museum’s 11th annual Eggs to Chicks exhibit. Great Kids Hoopla Brings Healthy Living, Fun Times to Glenview

The Kohl Children's Museum was packed last weekend as it played host to the Kraft Great Kids Hoopla. From musical instruments, to yoga lessons, crafts and story time, there was plenty to keep busy. During the event anyone who visited the museum also enjoyed free admission for themselves and their children. Last Chance to Catch Monarch Butterflies at Kohl Museum

The summer exhibit ends Sept. 4

The next fews weeks are your last chance to check out the live Monarch butterfly exhibit at Kohl Children's Museum. The exhibit, which opened May 24th and closes September 4th, displays the life cycle of the creatures for kids to see, from eggs to caterpillars to pupas to butterflies. Last Chance! Kohl Children's Museum Hatches Rare Chicks

The annual "Eggs to Chicks" exhibit--which ends this Sunday--gives visitors a closeup view of newborn chickens.

Every day, about two new chicks are hatching at Glenview’s Kohl Children’s Museum. During the annual Eggs to Chick exhibit (March 15-May 16), nearly 120 are born and spend their first eight days of life at Kohl, recently named one of the country's 10 best children's museums by Parents Magazine. Less than a decade ago Java chickens were an endangered species. Most farmers had come to prefer raising Babcock chickens, who produce the yellow chicks commonly associated with spring. Scientists began to worry that a lack of genetic diversity could cause the poultry industry to be devastated by a bird virus, and began efforts to bring back the Javas. “It’s a breed that was popular in the 1800s because they’re very hearty and can stay outside in …

I took the kids to see the chicks. They liked them, but it was so crowded in there they didn't get to look for more than a minute. They also have chicks in the children's zoo at Brookfield, and they are easier to get a peek at.   more ›
