Now that the year is nearing its end, it offers an opportunity to look back on which stories most interested Glenview Patch readers. What story did you follow most closely? 1. A 4-year-old drowns at a Glenview pool while with his child-care center. Vincente Cardenas was visiting Roosevelt Pool, 2239 Fir St., with Glenview-based Wesley Child Care Center. The Glenview police and fire departments will face off in a charity hockey game this weekend against staff and coaches from the Glenview Ice Center. Proceeds from the hockey game will benefit the Max Plotnick Education Fund and the Pagano Family Memorial Fund. “Two of our youth league coaches died suddenly this year, Neal Pagano and Aaron Plotnick, and the hockey community in Glenview came together to help out the two families and their children,” said Sylvain Turcotte, hockey director for the Glenview Park District. This is the first charity hockey event for these funds at the center, and everyone is looking forward to it, he said. ‘It should be very entertaining,” he said. Neal Pagano touched the lives of people across the North Shore, judging by the online tributes that have poured in since his death Oct. 14 in an accident in his back yard. Update 4:30 p.m. Oct. 15, 2012 According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, Pagano's cause of death is a spinal fracture, incurred when he fell into the pit. They have classified the death as an accident. The pit had not been used for a fire around the time of the accident, the Chicago Tribune reports.
