District 34 Board Decides On Overcrowding Solution

The Board of Education unanimously decided on a plan that will increase class sizes, reducing a projected deficit by nearly $4 million.

After months of meetings, hearings and discussion, Glenview School District 34 Board of Education unanimously approved a measure to address district overcrowding at its regular meeting Monday, March 7. In 2001, District 34 had an enrollment of about 3,700 students. Parents were able to share those concerns with the 25-member boundary committee made up of teachers, parents and district administrators at a community input meeting Thursday, Jan. 27. Roughly 60 attendees also heard presentations from the district's consulting firm, RSP, Thursday -- in addition to about 75 people who attended a similar meeting Wednesday evening. Rob …

District 34 Boundary Committee Discusses Overcrowding Solutions

Options were presented by a consultant to the committee Jan. 13 including redistricting and increasing classroom sizes.

Plans to address the increasing population of students overcrowding Glenview Public School District 34 may range from increasing the number of students in the classroom to redistricting neighborhood boundaries -- or a combination of the two. Representatives of the district's consulting firm RSP presented two concepts to the 25-member boundary committee made up of teachers, parents and district administrators at a meeting Thursday, Jan. 13. About a dozen parents and community members also attended the meeting, although the committee won't hear public input until a series of forums later this month. "The important thing to remember is that no final decision has been made," said Brett Clark, committee co-chair and district executive director …
