With the New York Times hopping on Dold’s bus tour and Washington pundits analyzing the race, North Shore residents will see a lot of Schneider and Dold.
If there was doubt of the national significance of the 10th Congressional District race in the Nov. 6 election, it vanished when the New York Times joined part of Rep. Robert Dold’s (R-Kenilworth) bus tour June 13 through 16. The Times article was one of two national publications which highlighted the contest between Dold and Democratic challenger Brad Schneider of Deerfield Monday. Roll Call, a newspaper covering Congress, joined the Times publishing stories Monday. Earlier: National Democrats Shine Spotlight on 10th Earlier in the month, the Rothenberg Political Report, a newsletter considered an independent analyst of political races, featured the contest in a story. Before that, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reserved…

With scant support for bipartisan proposal, Dold votes for Ryan Republican budget. Schneider claims bill hurts seniors and middle class. Schakowsky also weighs in.
After joining a failed bipartisan effort to adopt a broad approach to rein in the country’s financial condition Wednesday, Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) of Illinois 10th Congressional District voted for the Republican House budget proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) Thursday. Dold’s decision to go along with the House Republican majority after the initial idea did not get much support from either party drew criticism from Deerfield management consultant Brad Schneider, Dold’s Democratic opponent in the Nov. 6 general election. Dold joined a group of Democrats and Republicans to introduce a proposed budget for the next fiscal year based on recommendations two years ago by President Barack Obama’s deficit reduction commission, known as the …

Dold and Schakowsky see their own ideas in President’s message.
President Barack Obama was looking for bipartisan support for his $447 billion American Jobs Act proposed to a joint session of Congress Thursday night and he got it in varying degrees from local members. Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) liked elements of free trade legislation included in the package. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) was pleased that a bill she proposed August 10 may have had some influence in the president's speech. “That’s the Obama I love to hear," Schakowsky said. "It’s not the be-all and the end-all but I appreciated the tone of urgency.” Fast action The President urged Congress to pass the bill “right away” eight times. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) is optimistic about that Washington will act quickly on some …

Many job-friendly employers at Dold-organized event Thursday.
Back in December, North Shore resident Kirsten Caspersen was one of 1,500 people laid off from Hewitt Associates in Lincolnshire when Aon acquired the company. Thursday, Caspersen was among 600 job seekers to meet with 55 prospective employers during a job fair sponsored by Rep. Robert Dold, R-Kenilworth, at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. Related: Under Employed, Under the Radar on the North Shore Making a Case to be Hired Aon was one of the employers there, but Caspersen was talking to Allstate Insurance and at least seven other firms. As she spoke to Shannon Morris of Allstate, Caspersen discovered Morris knew some of her former colleagues from Hewitt. Caspersen valued pensions for 23 years at Hewitt, and now wants to …

Dold now lives in new Ninth District.
Many citizens of Illinois’s current Tenth Congressional District will have a new member of Congress, according to a proposed redistricting map released Friday. Every ten years, Congressional boundaries are redrawn to adjust for population shifts noted in the United States Census. The proposed map released Friday shows the planned borders for the state’s 18 Congressional districts. Illinois lost a seat in the House of Representatives because the state grew at a slower rate than other states. A vote on the new map by the Illinois General Assembly is planned this weekend. In the current district, Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) represents all of Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Highland Park, Winnetka, Glencoe, Deerfield, Northbrook, Libertyville …

Illinois delegation gets Israeli reaction to proposed U.S. policy shift.
When U.S. Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) arrived in Israel on May 15, he planned to learn more about a close American ally and help do something to create jobs in the 10th Congressional District. Little did the congressman know that at the moment he and a pair of constituents on the trip were talking to Patch from Israel, President Barack Obama was making a speech that would strain relations between the two countries. A two-state solution At the end of a major foreign policy address at the State Department, the president called for a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, based on Israel’s 1967 boundaries with negotiated land swaps between the parties. Obama's proposal, which was immediately rejected by Israeli Prime …

Agreement maintains Planned Parenthood funding.
When Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) predicted yesterday that a government shutdown would be averted in the final hour, he knew what he was talking about. Less than an hour before the midnight deadline yesterday, President Barack Obama reached agreement with House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to fund government operations through the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30. The deal avoided a cessation of services at midnight Friday. “It will probably happen at 11 tonight,” Kirk said during a media conference call with local reporters including Patch late Friday afternoon. “That’s the way these things usually work.” The deal was a personal vindication for Kirk and Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) who did not want…

Dold says he will not commit to crossing party lines if Planned Parenthood remains a sticking point.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) and Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) remained hopeful the federal government would not shutter at 11 p.m. Friday, but Dold was unwilling to specifically commit to maintaining funding for Planned Parenthood to avoid a shut down. Dold would not agree to voting against members of his party to maintain funding for Planned Parenthood if it were the only way to keep the government afloat. Comments and accusations have been flying back and forth between members of Congress blaming each other for the potential shut down if Congress does not pass a continuing resolution Friday to fund the federal government. Kirk and Dold spoke to members of the local media on a conference call Friday afternoon to explain the …
