Santa Claus kicks off the holiday season in Glenview when he joins the Holiday in the Park and Parade on November 24. The parade begins at Noon and end at Jackman Park where children will have the opportunity to visit with Santa. There will also be hay rides, a train ride for kids provided by Kohl’s Children Museum, carolers, cookies, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, and popcorn. Make holiday reservations for Breakfast with Santa at the Glenview Park Golf Club Cafe, 800 Shermer Road. Santa will be there December 1, 8 and 15. There will be two seatings available, at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. each day. Enjoy a breakfast buffet for $14 / person, children under two are free. Reservations can be made by calling 847-657-3200. NORAD Website lets you follow St. Nick's every move.
No need to check out the skies of Glenview tonight to see if Santa is really coming to town. You can track St. Nick the high-tech way. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is charged with keeping the United States and Canada safe from dangers originating from the sky or space. Tonight, however, the Colorado-based government agency adds one more important task to its daily list of duties. The agency will again provide its Official Santa Tracker (http://www.noradsanta.org/) that marks The Big Man's every move as he makes his way throughout both hemispheres. St. Nick came to visit as local families baked and decorated cookies at the Viking Cooking School and Culinary Shop Dec. 18.
The Viking Cooking School and Culinary Shop held their second annual Bake Cookies With Santa! event Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Chefs and staff of the cooking school hosted the free cookie-making extravaganza, offering goodies in a variety of shapes and sizes for decoration with frosting, chocolate, sprinkles and other candies. There was coffee for the parents, hot chocolate for the kids and holiday movies like "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" played on overhead televisions normally used for cooking demonstrations. And the day's main event — Santa Claus — sat at the end of the room for family photos and to take wish requests. Ten in the morning may be too early to eat cookies for some.
