Battle the summer heat with an ice cream treat.

What better time to head out for a cool, sweet treat than the sweltering summer days of July? As a matter of fact, there's an official reason. July has been National Ice Cream Month since 1984, when then-President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation designating the third Sunday in July as the day to pay homage to the frozen dessert. The sweet treat is enjoyed by 90 percent of the nation's population and uses about 9 percent of the milk produced in the nation, according to the International Dairy Foods Association.
