Now that the year is nearing its end, it offers an opportunity to look back on which stories most interested Glenview Patch readers. What story did you follow most closely? 1. Center responds to the tragic death of a 4-year-old at Roosevelt Pool and specifies programming changes planned for the rest of summer.
One week after 4-year-old Vicente Cardenas drowned while on a field trip with Wesley Child Care Center, the executive director of the Glenview-based center expressed her sympathy and outlined program changes in a letter to families. More: Read Patch's in-depth coverage of the recent tragedy. “Words cannot express the heartache, sympathy and concern we have for the family of Vicente Cardenas,” Ellen Fagerburg wrote in a letter to Wesley families Thursday evening. Beginning June 27, Park District campers may return to pools, officials announced Friday. In an effort to reduce the number of swimmers, suspension of all non-park district camps will extend for the rest of the 2012 season.
In response to last week’s drowning of 4-year-old Vicente Cardenas, Glenview Park District officials announced today that a ban on all non-district camps at outdoor pools will last through the end of the summer season as they review policies and procedures. Dave Sostak Tuesday, he said the Cardenas drowning case had been closed and that no further information would be released.
