Nearly 1,200 jobs could be lost at prominent companies.

Nine companies are reportedly preparing for nearly 1,200 layoffs throughout Illinois, including Sun-Times Media, Walgreen's and Kmart, according to Crain's Chicago Business. Sun-Times Media, publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times and other suburban papers, warns that 274 jobs in Glenview, Tinley Park and Aurora could be eliminated due to consolidation. Deerfield-based Walgreen's, which reported strong January sales due to the bad flu season, will reportedly lay off 65 warehouse workers in west suburban Berkeley. Kmart, part of Hoffman Estates-based Sears Holdings Corp., plans to lay off 98 employees when it closes a Naperville store in the spring, Crain's reported .

Village board approval is necessary for the upgrade and may come at the Feb. 5 trustee meeting.
Glenview trustees will hear a proposal on Feb. 5, to add a drive-through to the Walgreens at 2871 Pfingsten Rd. in Glenview may soon have a drive-through, the Chicago Tribune reports. The $2.7 million construction would include a facade upgrade to some nearby stores as well. "We are very pleased that Walgreens has chosen to invest in the property and upgrade it," Glenview deputy village manager Don Owen told the Chicago Tribune. "We are pleased that they also worked with neighbors to resolve any buffering issues." The next Glenview Village Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7:25 p.m. at Glenview Village Hall. New North Shore representative takes listening tour of nine companies on his first trip back to the 10th District after becoming a member of Congress.
From the time Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) started running for the House of Representatives in May, 2011, he touted his background as a management consultant as a reason he would be an effective member of Congress. Residents can sign up for the free program for those needing insurance assistance.
Northfield Township officials recently rolled out a new, free prescription discount card program for residents without insurance or whose insurance doesn’t cover their medications. Called Coast2CoastRx, the discount prescription card is available to any township resident regardless of age, income or existing health insurance. “It’s pretty risk-free from a resident’s perspective,” said Township Supervisor Jill Brickman. The card is administered at the township or county level through Financial Marketing Concepts in Florida and Welldyne in Colorado. Glenview PD Arrests Oct. 31-Nov. 2
Domestic Battery Nov. 1 at 9:10 p.m. Earl S. Capili, 25, of Glenview, was charged with domestic battery and interference with reporting domestic violence after he grabbed a household/family member and took their phone, preventing a call to the police to report the incident.
