By using Skype and The Global Classroom Project, Karnoscak connects his class with educators across the globe. On Thursday, Jan. 17, all the third grade classrooms met in Willowbrook's Collaboration Cafe and used Skype to meet with penguin research scientist Jean Pennycook, who is currently stationed in Antarctica. It's summer on the continent, but temperatures remain below freezing. The 'Chicago Tribune' and 'Sun-Times' ranked Glenbrook South and Avoca West among the top 50 Illinois schools based on standardized test performance.
Glenbrook South High School is the 17th best performing public high school in the Chicago area, based on the number students who met or exceeded standards on the Prairie State Achievement Examination, Chicago Tribune reports. According to the Tribune, 79.6 percent of students met the state's PSAE standards, a 4.6 percent increase over the previous year. The report also found that GBS fell short of federal education standards, based on the No Child Left Behind act. The Chicago Sun-Times, which ranked schools based on average test scores, ranked GBS the 16th best school in the state. Glenbrook South High School is the No. 4 best high school in suburban Cook County, according to rankings released by Chicago magazine last week. District 225 neighbor Glenbrook North ranked No. 1, followed by New Trier, and Prospect High School rounding out the top three. Avoca West and Willowbrook made the magazine’s list for best elementary schools at No. 11 and 13 respectively. Students at Wescott and Willowbrook schools visited The Grove in Glenview to learn about animal life.
First-graders at Wescott and Willowbrook elementary schools got a firsthand look at skunks, worms, spiders, roly polies and other critters during visits to The Grove in Glenview this week. Students took field trips to the nature preserve beginning Wednesday in order to learn about life cycles and plant and animal habitats as part of their science curriculum. Back in the classroom, students are watching caterpillars metamorphose into butterflies. Want to go back to first grade yet? According to my experience there and my opinion, they're only highly rated BECAUSE they spend that much. In my senior math class, they couldn't do anything without that fancy calculator that you had to buy for $100+. The teacher kinda left the process of adding the math and showing your work out of class.... When learning matrix's and learning sigma's, she just said "you don't need to worry about…   more ›
