Oakton Community College will remain closed due to flooding in Des Plaines, according to a spokesperson.

Oakton Community College's Des Plaines campus will remain closed due to flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 23-24, according to a spokesperson. Janet Spector-Bishop stated in an email to Patch that the campus in Skokie would be open, but many events at the campus in Des Plaines were rescheduled or canceled. Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rains May Lead to Flash Flood

The National Weather Service has issued a watch for Northern Illinois through Thursday.

A flash flood watch has been issued for Lake and Cook Counties through Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. "Heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding late this [Wednesday] afternoon into Thursday across Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana," the NWS notice states. In light of the recent, historic downpour to the Chicagoland area, additional rainfall "could lead to rapid flooding." Stay tuned to Patch for more as the weather develops. National Weather Service Issues Flood Advisory

Look out for pooling water on the roadways and use caution when driving in low-lying areas.

After heavy rainfall and thunderstorms pummeled the Chicago area early this morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood advisory for Cook County. In effect until 12:30 p.m., the flood advisory cautions residents to look out for pooling water on highways, underpasses and other low-lying areas. The NWS has also issued a flash flood warning for Cook County, in effect until 11:30 a.m. During the major storms this morning, rainfall levels reached between 3 to 5 inches, according to the NWS. More thunderstorms are predicted for this evening, and later tonight, especially after midnight. Those storms could produce torrential downpours, hail and more flash flooding, the NWS reports.
