It just amazes me that, with so much technology....and not just NASA. What about other sky-watch groups, astronomers, etc. Nobody was able to detect and/or track this meteor? I would personally want to be advised when or if "the sky is falling" in my area... ;-)

Reply...Did this meteor actually "take NASA by surprise"??? Or had its presence and direction not been reported? If careful monitoring is in place, how was that missed? Would "more funding" make incidences like this more likely to be identified, so the general population could be warned of similar dangers?

Reply...This is too COOL!!! Although I'm not a resident, this message extends such an unselfish and heart-warming message, from the very ones who worked so hard to ensure that their community was taken care of in the wake of all of the craziness and hardship of this storm. To whomever submitted this letter: Thanks for sharing the "Sparkle"... ;-)

On the article Report: Private Plowers Charging Exorbitant Rates

ReplyI had one contractor tell me, over the phone, that he usually gets "$300 per driveway"...not "per hour" ...which would include the use of a plow and Bobcat. Another guy wants a sort of contract, in the way of a deposit. So if he quotes $50 to do the job, he would require a down-payment of $150, so as to pre-pay three visits. Then he would refund any unused money after snow-season. I realize that there are many factors, such as snowfall amounts, length of your driveway, obstacles that would cause more time to be taken, etc. And if the contractor's truck or other equipment breaks down, it's expensive to repair them. But $300 for one visit??? How much does a brand new snow-blower cost to purchase and have on hand? In a couple of visits at that rate, you could have a brand new "snow toy" sitting in the garage...and maybe make a couple of dollars yourself, helping to dig out your neighbors! I wonder how many people are still snowed-in, simply for not being able to afford to pay a contractor? So...what is the average rate here in the Haddams? How much are you paying to have your driveway plowed out? And do you have anyone to recommend for help with plowing or shoveling?

...I honestly hope it was a glimpse of a comet or meteor passing by...not any traces of the "testing" of the nuclear devices that North Korea is threatening to send our way, as of late.
