Glenview to Pay $95K to Settle Case of Cops Accused of Lying on Stand

Officers' testimony in a drug case was contradicted by a police car video.

The Village of Glenview has agreed to pay $95,000 to settle a lawsuit that centered around Glenview police officers’ testimony in a drug case that was contradicted by video from a squad car, the Glenview Announcements reports.

The lawsuit was based on a June 2013 drug arrest in Glenview, in which a Glenview man who Chicago police had under surveillance was pulled over by a combination of Glenview and Chicago officers, the article says.

On the stand at the drug trial, all five officers said they stopped the man for a traffic violation, checked his license and registration, and had him stand uncuffed by the back of the car while officers searched it and found a bag with marijuana in the back, according to an article in the Journal & Topics. Yet the video from a police car camera showed that a Chicago officer approached the car, reached through the open window to open the car door and then cuffed the man immediately.
