Extreme Cold: Trash Pickup Delayed, Warming Shelters Open

Trash pickup will be delayed one day this week, and Park Center is open as a warming shelter through Thursday.

As temperatures plummet, multiple municipal services are impacted in Glenview, according to the city website.

Officials are urging residents to limit their time outdoors and avoid prolonged exposure on Monday and Tuesday, when the National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory. The wind chill could make temperatures feel as low as 40 to 50 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service.

The police department, 2500 E. Lake Ave., will be serve as a warming center all day and all night, while Park Center, 2400 Chestnut Ave., will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. as a warming shelter through 

Groot will not collect trash on Monday, and pickups for the rest of the week will follow a holiday schedule, according to the city. That means collections will take place one day later than the regularly scheduled weekday, and Friday collections will take place on Saturday. 

Monday night's zoning board of appeals meeting was canceled and rescheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13.
