Glenview Considers $12.5M in Stormwater Improvements to Benefit 3,000 Homes

Trustees may accelerate efforts to reduce flooding in Glenview by committing $12.5 in additional funding toward stormwater improvements over the next five years.

After heavy rainstorms in April and June flooded streets and homes throughout Glenview, the village is considering committing an additional $12.5 million toward stormwater improvements over the next five years.

Capital Projects director Joe Kenney presented a plan for those improvements to trustees during a budget meeting last week. Trustees are expected to discuss those improvements at Tuesday night's board meeting, according to village of Glenview spokesperson Lynne Stiefel.

The proposed $12.5 million comes on top of the $6.7 million in village funds currently committed toward stormwater improvements, including work on the Glenview Park Golf Club, Glenayre Park swamp and the Navy Bypass Sewer, the last part of the Glen stormwater master plan.

Glenview has also obtained a $6.75 million grant for stormwater improvements east of Harms Road, and is close to securing $900,000 in Federal Emergency Management Association funds for improvements downtown, according to Kenney.

If trustees approve the additional $2.5 million per year over the next five years, Glenview’s stormwater improvements could benefit 3,050 homes, Kenney said. Areas on the list could include Park Manor, Northfield Woods, Bellwood/Westbrook, Pickwick/Thornwood, North Glenayre Drive and Bonnie Glen, among others.
